During the summer, as transfer speculation was rife that Mario Balotelli was to join Man City, I read an article by an Italian journalist saying that English football should count itself lucky (the name escapes me so apologies to him!). His reasons were two fold. 1) We are getting an exceptionally talented player who has the potential to be world-class and, more importantly, 2) He will provide us with numerous talking points as he is, quite simply, a nutter. 8 months or so into the season and he has done just that!
Footballers, in the most part, are pretty boring these days. Sure there is the odd exception, but in the majority we are subjected to countless mundane and pointless press conferences full of clichés. Their off-field antics are mostly pretty tame. Again there is the odd exception, but nothing wildly different compared to what we all see on a weekly night out wherever we live.
